We rented a house in Galena for three nights. It was nice to just get away from the same old thing and to have Robert around. He has been working a lot lately. Don't get me wrong, it is a good thing that he has a job, is busy and is making money. But... the boys and I like to have him to ourselves sometimes.
So, our (fly by the seat of our pants) itinerary went a little like this...
Thursday:
4:30pm- Check in, unload the car, order pizza, decide to find somewhere to go mini-golfing. It was a beautiful night we had to get out and do something.
Friday:
7:15am- We get to sleep in until 7:15! Yay, Carter! What a good boy, sleeping in on the first day of vacation. But... we wake-up to rain. BOO! So we take our time getting up and around.
10:30am- It doesn't seem to be letting up so we decide to head downtown for lunch at Durty Gurts. Just as we are getting there, the sun comes out and it turns into a beautiful day to walk the streets of downtown Galena.
Noon- We make good on the promise we made to Carter to go to the candy store and the old fashion ice cream parlor...
Dad (Robert) made sure Collin wasn't going to miss out either...
Saturday:
5:15am- Wake-up (early... nobody sleeps in)...don't hear rain...don't see rain...
6:30am- Robert goes for an early morning run while the boys and I wake up and get breakfast, we are hoping that we will be able to rent bikes when Robert gets back.
7:00am- Robert calls... he must have gotten turned around on the trails... not sure where he is and he can't run another half and hour back up and down all of those hills (he thought he would be back to the house at this point), I load the boys in the car to go looking for him, he calls back and says he can see the resort so we go to pick him up, back home I get a shower and we all get ready to head out for that much anticipated bike ride. Just as I am putting my socks on and Robert is getting ready to load the boys in the car... it starts to rain. Back inside, we decide to watch the movie "Wall e". (Great movie by the way.)
10:30am- Rain finally stops and sun comes out. Carter says, "let's go for a bike ride". We go to the resort, rent bikes. There are a lot of hills which we anticipated as being a problem, but decided to brave it. Needless to say, our entire bike ride looks a lot like this...Poor Robert... He thought he was getting off easy because the pull behind for Collin was set up to be used with my bike. :)
11:30am- We give up the bike riding idea by the top of the third hill and head back down to do a little of this...Much better idea. :)
1:05pm- Find out the loaf of bread I brought with us is moldy (I had just bought it before we left!)... improvise cold lunch meat, cheese and crackers.
1:30pm- Naps... zzzzZZzzzZZ...
5:00pm- Downtown for supper at Vinny Vanucchi's (which is a very cute name for a restaurant when said by my 3 year old.) Oh, this is also where we learn that the new sound that Collin makes when he wants more food (long, loud, screeching sound worked up from the depths of his abdomen), is not so pleasant... But, Carter was a little gentleman, even ordered his own meal.
Sunday:
5:15am- Wake up to the sound of this coming through the monitor... "Collin, wake up buddy, it's time to get up, the sun's up"... I jump up out of bed and get Carter out of there. Luckily Collin is a heavy sleeper and this did not phase him.
7:00am- Still able to make french toast for breakfast as originally planned (thanks to the local Wally world).
9:00am- Get everything packed up (Why in the world did we bring SO Much stuff??)
11:00am- On our way home... It's always nice to go on vacation, but it is Sooo nice to be on the way home too.

Sounds like a great vacation - glad you could all enjoy family time for awhile!
